This page is broken up into 3 sections. The first one (Adoptions) lists any Danes that are ONLY RA-CA dogs. Since our stand has ALWAYS been "None of our dogs will ever be placed in rescue or the pound, they will be coming home" they are our priority. The second one (Rescues) deals with any danes we may have that ARE NOT RA-CA dogs. The third one (Beware theses Buyers) deals with the people who have neglected, abused, broken trust, skipped on payment (and so much more). In general people breeders DO NOT want their puppies to go to.
All the Danes available in the ADOPTION section have a $100.00 adoption fee. We also request a ONE time $200.00 placement fee for accepting RESCUES not of our breeding. These fees go into a collection used for food, training, bedding, toys, advertising and Veterinary expenses.

BELLA

Bella was a 4 year old mantle bitch. She was a very big girl! She needed to lose 40 lbs (we had got around 15 lbs off her) She was natural earred, spayed, stomach tacked, UTA on immunizations, wormed. Loved other dogs (big and small), children, people (was a mascot for a Philadelphia Eagles fan) totally non-alpha, very quiet, no bad habits. The previous owner was a salesman who puts in thousands of miles a month and felt Bella was not receiving the care she diserved by just laying on a couch all day with no interaction. She went to a wonderful repeat dane family!
Sol & Luna
Sol and Luna (littermates to Autumn) were returned at 4 1/2 years of age. They had been placed together from day one. The wife was having a new baby and was not comfortable with these huge danes. Both were placed in separate homes and are doing wonderful!
Harley

This puppy was crated 24/7, we placed him in a
home that set him free. Charges: None
Luke

Luke was a loving sweet boy that passed away quietly in his sleep before placement.
Bear

Bear (Ra-Ca's Polar Express) is a 1.5 years old male harlequin that is available. Bear has a sweet laid back boy that
has natural ears, has been netured, and is UTD on shots. He is great with kids and adults as well as other dogs and cats. Bear also
has some basic obedience and is very lovey towards people. Bear went to a loving family that is a repeat buyer from Ra-Ca.
~ RESCUE ~
Scooby

We rescued this fawnaquin puppy when the owners found out he wasn't a "new and exciting color" as the breeder had told them. They were going to take him to the pound. Ra-Ca Danes found him a home that didn't care about his color, and loved him for himself. Charges: None
~ BEWARE THESE BUYERS ~
!! WARNING !!
The following images may disturb some people as they show the true nature of animal abuse and neglect.
!! WARNING !!
Chip

This was a 10 month old puppy who's owner fed 1 cup of dog food a day. We rescued him before his owner could have him euthanized. Chip weighed 80 lbs. and lived with us for 3 days before dying in my arms. Upon necropsy, he was found to be in left sided heart failure secondary to starvation. Charges: Failure to vet before condition too severe to treat, breech of contract/contract default. Settled in favor of Ra-Ca Danes.
Cyclone
Cyclone was placed in a home that promised to love her and treat her like the family...She went home weighing 110 lbs.

7 months later, Cyclone was returned to us on 4/21/02 weighing 70.4 lbs. emaciated, heartworm positive, filthy, and riddled with worms. Buyers claimed Cyclone was fed, and Animal Control had been out to their house previously due to Cyclones condition. Investigation opened/Charges pending: Animal cruelty, and neglect. Buyers: Bruce and Jessica Williams in MD.

Update-Cyclone weighs 86.9 lbs. on 4/29/02 per Vet visit. We now have the hard road ahead of us to attempt to build up her muscles from the massive protein loss. We have only just begun to "fill in the cracks". She still cannot stand straight on her hind legs, and limps from the muscle loss, but continues to wag her tail and give kisses.
Cyclone weighs 94.3 lbs. on 5/16/02 per vet visit
UPDATE! 6/23/02 Cyclone went to her new home today! She weighs 105lbs. She has permanate damage to her left back leg from the protein loss, but her personality still shines right through!
Tempest
The owner of this puppy euthanized her at 7 months of age when she contracted parvo in June 2000 (2 weeks after purchasing her), her rational was that "She had a litter on the ground and she did not want them to get it." We have noticed this person ALWAYS has a litter on the ground. She had the gall to demand her money back and write threatening e-mails. Charges: None (but we would have loved to if we could have.)
Owner Lynn Henning in Atlanta Georgia.

Baby

This pup was abandoned by its owner after she was diagnosed with HOD. The owner did not want to spend money for treatment, so she intentionally gave her an overdose of Rimadyl. The puppy hemorrhaged in our Vets parking lot, and died that day. I will forever remember holding this dying puppy in my arms as she sat in a pool of blood. She is buried at Ra-Ca Ranch. Charges: Writing bad checks, animal cruelty, breech of contract/contract default. Warrant issued for arrest. Turned self in. Settled in favor of Ra-Ca Danes. Buyer: Debbie Lehbert in VA.
Panda
Panda's owner never paid her off, and wrote bad checks.
Warning: This mantle bitch was not registered and may be being used for breeding.
Charges: Writing bad checks, breech of contract/contract default. Settled in favor of Ra-Ca Danes.
Buyer: Danielle Gardos in FL.
Jade
Jade was let loose to become feral. Animal control picked her up 1 week later.
Jade died a horrible death, her intestines became necrotic from a blockage due to eating trash.
Charges: Writing bad checks, neglect, breech of contract/contract default. Settled in favor of Ra-Ca Danes.
Buyer: Jennifer Sesso in MD.
Casey

This buyer took one of our puppies
on payments, she paid at total of $150.00 and disappeared. Last known place of residence Washington IL.
Warning: This mantle bitch is not registered, and may be being used for breeding. Charges: Breech of contract/contract default. Owner: Laura Casey
Jericho
Jericho was a show marked mantle male, ears cropped and standing. Neutered at 6 months of age. Very tall (38 in) but very skinny- beginning weight was 105, 3 months later at 136lbs. He has had a 7 in 1 combo shot, injection for lyme, intranasal KC, wormed and rabies shot via the previous owners, all done in one vet visit right before dumping him. He is a full brother to Shade and Thunder. Even though the past four years had not been kind to him, his spirit showed through. He did wonderful with the other danes, eating, playing...even his tail started to wag. He was raised with children, so had no fear of them. It appears he lived in a small cage/cement flooring as he had sores on his back, tail and hocks. The biggest kicker was to watch him run around with the other dogs and play "You can't catch me!" No food agression, in fact the poor dog did not know what to do with food until my Dane girls showed him. He pickedg up a good appetite and it took some time to fill in the gaps. He understands sit, drop it, come, stay and walks on leash. He is house trained, loves car rides, the rain, running water out of hoses, playing fetch, cookies and tucking his nobby head under your arm. The previously owner Denise Lanas, attempted to circumvent contacting RA-CA Danes in regards to our return policy. We would like to thank Shari Reigh for finding Jericho and notifying us this was one of our own. Previous owner stated their Vet saw nothing wrong with a dane being on the skinny side...Jericho should weigh at least 160. They are relocating to Texas... use your judgement.
The following pictures are graphic. Jericho the day we rescued him.
FLASH! Jericho was placed in his new loving home on 3/24/06 Kudo's to his new owner for opening his heart to this wonderful dog!
Please take care of your beloved pets. They deserve so much better than this. To the "casual buyer" a warning from Ra-Ca Danes; If you abuse, neglect or commit animal cruelty on any of our Danes, we WILL seek damages. We will NEVER reward people for these acts. If you feel you may be a "casual buyer" and fit the above MO's, do not contact us for a Dane, we do not have any "disposable dogs" available.
Ra-Ca Danes would like to thank everyone for the HUGE support we have received for being unafraid to expose these people for who and what they are. We will always be available to champion for these unfortunate animals and let other breeders decide if they would want one of their puppies to fall into these peoples hands. We will continue to try to save as many Danes that pass our way as we can, but sadly, sometimes there will be no happy ending. We appreciate the volumes of inquires as to the availability of the rescues we have performed throughout the years.
A note on rescues, we use to perform referrals to the Rescue clubs in our part of the US. We stopped that practice back in 2001 due to having those same people call us back with horror stories of how poorly they had been treated, how some never received a call back (yes or no), were told what they had to feed, had to have a fence, had to be available for unannounced home visits, couldn't have wood or tile floors, the dog could be taken at any time, many have been told they would be OK to FOSTER but not ADOPT. I have been told that many National/Regional rescues want as many danes in foster homes as they can so they can continue to gain revenue from private parties, the GDCA and Specialty Clubs around the US. If a rescue has say 80 dogs in foster homes, and they generate $100.00 to $200.00 per animal in collected funds, they now have up to $16,000. Of that $16,000 the fosters may just get reinbursed for food so 80 x $40.00 ($3,200) for food leaves rescue with $11,800. The less danes in rescue those number go down, so from rescues standpoint they are better off having even more danes in foster homes. I have even heard that National/Regional rescues charges the BREEDER of the dane (not the person turning the dane in) $10.00 a day while they have this dane in their "foster homes". That's up to another $300.00 per dane per month multiply by 80 that could be another $24,000 (don't forget to add in the $16,000 in donated funds!!) WOW! Up to $40,000 a month possible profit to care for just 80 danes! We (as many others have) will be starting our own rescue here as we feel National/Regional rescues are not handling placement correctly. None of us gets outside funds, we care for them from the money out of our pockets. They should be ashamed to have dogs longer than 2 months let alone 2 years languishing in a "foster home"! When are they no longer "fosters" but "adopted" dogs? My longest adoption took 3 months (Jericho) as he looked like a concentration camp dog and needed to gain 40 lbs. The quickest adoption was less than 1 week. ALL my placements have been wonderful owners who were thrilled to have a chance at owning an older dane.! So please check back here frequently as more and more people call looking for someone who will treat them with the respect they deserve and find them that perfect, loving, dane family member.
