Renovations at Ra-Ca Danes Ranch

In early 2003, our first priority was to get a vehicle that can move more than 2 Danes LOL! We settled on a GMC Savannah. We LOVE it, the dogs LOVE it! We call it our "Big blue cookie monster".

The second order of business was to remodel the puppy/dog room. After 8 years of many Danes growing up from puppy to adulthood, the room was very used (and abused) LOL! (We even used the room as an example to our puppy buyers of what a Dane can do damage wise :)

This was the room after we removed the 12x12 in. tile flooring, the boards covering the holes chewed in the walls, and the floor boards. After 8 years of mopping every day, we could see where each tile had been.

We applied a waterproof sealant to the subfloor after scrubbing and sanitizing.

We then rolled out linoleum which has no cracks for easier clean up and sanitizing.

The next step was to repair the holes in the walls...those were some BIG drywall pieces!

We painted the stall doors leading from our kitchen a high gloss (wipeable for sure) baby blue.

All the trim in the room got the same paint as the stall doors.

The walls were painted with high gloss lilac.

Before and after!
The final touch was attaching 4 foot stainless steel sheets to the walls. The most easy way to keep walls clean, and holeless!

We then put our attention to the great outdoors!

We first built a deck leading from the puppy/dog room...not bad for a first time deck :)

We decided to make a 3 pen enclosure with gates. The first step was to cement the corner posts and gate posts, going with 6ft height.

The first pen leads off from the deck, the second is shown here.

Thank goodness for our tractor, digging holes by hand is rough!

First and second pen done except pulling the fencing. We placed a double gate inbetween to have 1 large pen, or 2 smaller ones.

Everything was completed the Summer of 2003.

Check back later for more updates!
